Have you ever thought about the fact that buying wool and dating are really terrifyingly similar? Nein? Well then it is high time that we dedicate ourselves to this important insight.
In both situations, you usually do very reasonable things beforehand. This time you are not blinded by superficialities. This time, you stay with yourself. And this time, nothing will be taken with you just because it looked at you nicely. Now you know what you like. At least, you believe.
When dating, you usually have a small list in your head. Not too complicated. Not too loud. No drama. Please be reliable, fun and intelligent. So basically roughly the human version of a low-maintenance favorite sweater. With wool, this sounds very similar: simple, neutral, soft, easy to combine and please nothing that looks beautiful in the end, but becomes difficult in everyday life. It's a solid decision. One that you’ll still feel comfortable with tomorrow.
And then you stand there. When dating, perhaps in a café, slightly nervous, but with the firm intention of staying completely relaxed. Which, of course, never works as soon as you take it. Or you stand in the wool shop in front of the shelf, accidentally brush over a few balls and pretend that you have the situation completely under control. In both cases, one knows: one should not judge too quickly now. But of course you do it anyway. After all, you are only a person with eyes, hands and a certain weakness for beautiful things.
And then all of a sudden this one yarn comes along.
Actually, not at all what you were looking for. Much too colorful, much too fluffy and maybe a bit extravagant. One of these yarns, in which you still think very objectively at first: Fine, but certainly nothing for me. Or one of those people where you say, Nice, but it doesn't suit me.
And then the first nice word falls, you smile a little too noticeable and suddenly the thing is not quite so clear anymore.
They just wanted to look briefly. Just feel briefly. Nonetheless, of course, without obligation. A little acquaintance in passing. No big intentions. Really not. And five minutes later, you pretend to explore the world together. Or at least once walk across the wool shop.
In the case of the woolball, you put it back on the shelf at this point, because you are grown up and can theoretically make sensible decisions. Then you go again a little round. Look at other yarns. Vergleicht. Keeps busy. Maybe reach for a very solid beige just to prove to yourself that you still have control over the situation.
And then you end up in front of the same ball again.
That is about the moment when you realize: This is perhaps not so non-binding anymore. You don’t want to admit it yet, but actually you are a step further. The first plans are already being made in the head. Maybe a shawl. Maybe a sweater. Maybe something that you wouldn’t have needed, but now suddenly very much needed. That is sometimes the case with the big feelings.
But let’s be honest: like some encounters, wool does not always have to fit into the plan at first glance. Sometimes it's the unexpected that gets stuck. The color you never take. The quality that you actually wanted to attack only once briefly. The skein that you have not sought and that suddenly very convincingly pretends that it has always belonged to you.
Of course, there are also the very sensible decisions. The yarns where everything fits. Color good. Good material. Guidance is also feasible. This is the date where you say: Very nice, very suitable, my mother would be thrilled. And sometimes that's just wonderful.
But sometimes it takes this little tingling. This: I don't know exactly what will happen to it, but I don't want to give it back right now. And honestly, the best stories rarely begin with absolute reason. Neither dating nor knitting.
But wool doesn’t ghost you. You have to leave that to her.
In our shop, this happens more often than you think. People come in with very clear ideas and go out with a yarn that was really not originally intended. But what can you say: You can still fall in love a little bit.
And of course we wouldn’t be us if we didn’t have some really nice new knitting inspirations in store for you to fall in love with a little bit of shock.
Let's start with Curly Cotton from Gepard Garn. Leute, Curly Cotton It has turned our heads. It is a unique, exciting and incredibly light bouclé yarn, made mainly of cotton and silk, characterized by a beautiful, distinctive structure. Wow, the rose-colored glasses are hardly noticeable.
So that this little love story also has real future opportunities, we of course have a suitable knitting idea: the Plain Yoke Tee 19 from Le Knit. A simple, beautiful shirt that you wonderfully get out of the Curly Cotton can knit.
Then there would also be this Plain Yoke Tee 20, also a beautiful knitting project from the line of Sandnes Garn.
Now we want to tell you something briefly, but for the time being really should stay among us. Sabine is currently in love again (fixed by a shop customer). In whom or what? Into the SABAI Top fromPaula-mAnd they are double-seeded. Jaipur Peace Silk knitted. In black, of course.
And what are we supposed to say: This definitely looks like a pretty good catch to us.
In line with this, we have put together a few knitting kits that fit really well into the season. Some of them are ideal for the transition period, when it is a little fresher in the morning and evening, others are already much more towards summer and can be combined wonderfully easily. From fine cardigans to uncomplicated shirts, there is a lot that makes you want a new project without having to think long.
Finally, we need to briefly discuss something organizational with you. You know, just as in relationships sometimes there are those serious conversations that you can't put off forever. But don't worry, it won't be that dramatic. But it is still important, so you know when you can visit us in the next few months in the store.
