WOLLE & STAUNE · BLOG & NEWS

If wool could talk

Folks, our everyday life is pretty much about wool – surprise!

We get up, and often the first glance already falls on the knitting project, which has remained on the couch the night before. Then we go, finish, go to the shop, where we spend many hours with many different yarns, colors and structures. You know that.

At some point, in between all these balls, this slightly oblique thought came to us: What if the wool on our shelves had a little life of its own? So a little bit like that Toy Storywith yarn instead of toys. Do you know what we mean?

And because we found this idea not only weird, but somehow also quite charming, we thought: We just tell you a little story today. And that's from the point of view of a ball of wool that's lying on the shelf and watching very closely what's happening around it. Here we go:

I’ve been lying here for a while now. Second row from above, moved a little bit to the left, right in view – at least I imagine that. Next to me, a ball that thinks it's better because it's a little fluffier than me. And among us this one color that is really always taken immediately. As soon as she is there, she is already gone. It's a little bit boastful, if you ask me.

My day usually starts quietly, until at some point the first customers come and finally this slow through-the-shelf strip starts. This is always a special moment. Nothing has yet been decided. They look, feel, sometimes just dream a little. I like this phase. There are still all the opportunities.

Then we go. Hands come closer, stay short, then reach to the right. Or to the left. Or exactly after me – which of course I welcome very much. I am lifted, pressed a bit (quite pleasant such a small massage), once turned, the banderole is read. “Oh, that’s nice...” I hear sometimes. And then comes this little, quiet “But...”

This “but” is very dangerous. Most of the time I end up pretty much where I was before. Maybe a little bit further forward. Or, which is clearly a little bit worse, a little bit further back. It takes a moment to acclimatize again.

Next to me, it suddenly gets hectic. A customer picks up purposefully, as if she had known for sure that this yarn is coming home today. No hesitation, no long thought. Zack, adopted. Three balls at once. I watch this every time with a mixture of admiration and light eye rolling. These obvious favorites have it easy. They don't even have to make an effort.

Then there are these very specific situations.

For example, if someone tries to find the exact same color again, it gets really exciting. Suddenly, we are all placed next to each other, compared, held in the light. “That’s almost the same, isn’t it?” – no, it isn’t. We are all unique! But we don’t say anything and just let it happen. After all, it’s every ball of wool’s goal to be adopted.

But you know what, you develop a certain serenity over time. Or let's call it character maturity. I'm now aware that not every yarn is intended for every person. (That sounds very grown up now, I know.) But it's true, too. There are those moments, everything just fits.

And until then? I’m just lying here waiting for someone to come and want me exactly as I am. Because I believe that the most beautiful stories do not start with a quick grip on the shelf. But with exactly this little hesitation. With a second or maybe even a third look.

Somehow we see the wool on our shelves a little differently since then. Not only as a yarn, but almost already with personalities and small peculiarities, which they really have, if you look closely.

And while we’re at it, we have to recommend the Pimabomuld of CaMaRose to you again. A summer yarn made of 100% organic Pima cotton – light, pleasant and simply perfect for the warm season.

Yeah, we know we've shown them to you before. But so many new colors have moved in with us that it simply has to be mentioned again here.

For your spring and summer projects in any case note and by the way also a really nice alternative to Mandarin petite from Sandnes Garn.

Speaking of Sandnes Garn, the new collection is here and it just screams for summer, sun, beach and sea. We would like to introduce you to our favorites in this article, but you will come to the complete collection HIER.

For one thing, there would be this genius Summer Pantsonce knitted with LINE and once with TYNN LINE, double-threaded. This not only results in a slightly different structure, but also the possibility to play with two colors and thus create a light, very beautiful melange.

And then there's this. Roselyn Short Dress and that Roselyn Long Dress. Especially the short dress we find really beautiful, especially the combination with the pants. It just has such a casual, but still coherent look.

Here, too, different yarns are possible for both variants, so you can vary a bit depending on the feel and style.

Sandnes Garn has also finally released many instructions from previous collections, where the magazines are already sold out. As always, it took a bit, as they only publish the instructions when all language versions are really out of print.

We are definitely already busy creating suitable knitting kits, and the first of you have already struck. A few more models will be added here until the summer, so it remains exciting.

The new knitting books of the Laine-Verlags They arrived with us. We would say that there is something for every taste.

And it's also really beautiful. Flow Loop Scarf from Otherloops. Last time, we gave you the Flow Loop V Neck And now there's the appropriate shawl in the same pattern.

Before we finish, we have a little spoiler for you. Gepard Garn has introduced a new yarn which Curly Cotton. We have already pre-ordered it and as soon as it is available, we will have all the colors in our store.

Also in Isager There is something new, there comes a silk, and here again we will have all the colors for you there. As soon as it is ready, you will of course be the first to get all the information and pictures.

Now we release you into the knitting weekend, wish you as always a lot of joy while knitting and we read each other again in two weeks.

And don’t forget, the greatest happiness of a ball of wool is to be adopted.
