There are times when the days feel different than usual. More heavy and more subdued. You go through everyday life and notice that something is missing. Everything continues, you do things, talk to each other and yet inside feels much different than usual. The thoughts are constantly there and yet can hardly be grasped. They appear, disappear, come back. And you don't really know where to go with them.
Just then it is not always easy to just keep going and yet you do it. You stand up, open the door to the store and do what you need to do. Not because everything would be easy, but because it has to go somehow. And because sometimes there is no other option than to go through the day step by step.
In such moments, knitting is a silent companion for us. No consolation in the big sense. No solution for everything that is difficult right now. But something that is there when meaning and words are missing. If you take the needles in your hand, nothing spectacular happens. The head does not immediately become calm, the thoughts do not arrange themselves well in rows. But they get space.
While the hands work mesh by mesh, the thoughts are allowed to just run along. They don't have to be sorted and they don't have to go away. Some stay a little longer, others move on. And that's fine. The uniform rhythm gives support, even if a lot of things are wobbling inside.
There are days when you knit consciously and concentrated. And others, everything runs almost automatically. There you look at the wool, at the movements of the hands, and suddenly you realize that you were just there for a while. Without functioning. Without having to explain anything. The hands know what to do, even if the head does not know right now.
Knitting does not ask questions. It does not require speed, clarity, a good mood. It allows for pauses, errors and standstill. You can separate, restart, lose your thread and find it again. Just as it sometimes is in life.
Anyone who reads our articles regularly knows that it is usually relaxed and humorous here. That we like to be a little silly, not take things too seriously and can also laugh at ourselves. Basically, this reflects exactly what is usually the case in our shop: easy, warm and casual.
At the moment it feels different. The days are currently harder, because we suddenly and unexpectedly lost a colleague who was an integral part of our team. Someone who belonged. It is missing – quietly, but noticeably.
Our thoughts are with her family and everyone close to her. We wish a lot of strength, cohesion and small moments of consolation.
We tell you quite honestly: today we do not feel like talking euphorically about new knitting projects or showering you with inspiration. For that, we ourselves are a little lacking.
And yet we believe that knitting can be a quiet accompaniment precisely in such times. Not because it makes something easier or gives answers, but because you see how something is created. As a few stitches slowly become more. How something grows and how the world keeps spinning – even if it may not feel like it right now.
So we leave you here, without many words, still a few knitting kits. No big promises or loud ideas. Just something that might do the soul a little bit of good.
