When knitting needles get spring feelings

We hardly dare to speak out loud. You know that. Hardly once you say it with conviction, comes the next day again snow rain. But still: It looks like he is actually there. The spring.

Suddenly it's warmer. Freundlicher. And what is really worth mentioning after this winter – especially if you live in the east of Austria: It is finally brighter again. So really brighter. Not this “it is day, but you still have to turn on the light”-bright, but real daylight.

And with that light, something great happens. You suddenly have energy again. The birds sing, the people look a little more cheerful again, and somewhere someone with rolled up sleeves is guaranteed in the garden and digs a raised bed highly motivated. Simply because it is spring.

You often hear that spring is the most beautiful time for gardeners:innen. And yes, that's probably true. As soon as the sun shines for a few days in a row, many suddenly feel a strong need to root in flower pots and very determined to use small plants somewhere.

But those who have made wool and knitting their life’s content, know: spring has another, somewhat lesser-known side effect. While the first plants sprout out of the earth outside, something very similar begins inside. Only that it is less about tulips or tomatoes, but about ideas. Knitted ideas.

And it is precisely these knitting ideas that have an amazing property in spring: they multiply. Almost a bit like daisy on a meadow. First, you think there's only one idea. A small project perhaps, quite harmless. And two days later, you realize that suddenly it has become several. A jackerl here, a sweater there and perhaps this one small project that could be done “quickly on the side”. Ups.

However, what is often overlooked at this moment: Between “That would actually be a good idea” and “finished knitting project” are usually about two thousand stitches, two sleeves and at least one moment in which one wonders if one was perhaps briefly distracted when counting the rows. Experience has shown that such moments often end in small crises of meaning, followed by the question of whether one should now knit back, recount or simply pretend that everything was planned exactly as if it had been.

But all this is surprisingly reliable in the spring. Because in the spring light, suddenly every new knitting project seems like a very reasonable idea.

Spring is the season of optimism. And optimism is for knitters: inside a very creative, but also slightly dangerous matter. Suddenly everything seems feasible. Projects seem smaller, patterns more understandable and time seems to be sufficient anyway. At least theoretically.

You could almost think that not only ourselves, but also the knitting needles develop a bit of spring feelings. Otherwise, it is hardly possible to explain why they want to multiply suddenly at this time of year. To be honest, however, we have no objection to this.

Perhaps that is the real purpose of spring. Not only to make everything a little greener again, but also to ensure that new ideas are allowed to grow.

Some end up in flower pots. Others on the needles. And they both need about the same thing: a little patience, a little time and every now and then just a few warm hours of sunshine.

As befits our contributions now, we come to the part that is actually the most important: the knitting ideas. So that you do not have to waste time looking for the next idea, we have collected a few or even relatively many knitting projects that came to mind for this wonderful start of spring. So you can skip the brooding and go straight to the actual core of the thing: knitting.

Let's start with this. CPH Sweater from Lesfillesducoeur. The sweater is actually exactly what you want for spring. Loose, casual and perfect for those days when the sun is already warm, but the air is still a bit fresh. The photo actually reveals this quite well: A sweater that you prefer to wear outside, while you let the first rays of sun shine in your face.

And while we are already on the subject of “spring sweaters”: the Sweater No. 21 by My Favourite Things Knitwear is a wonderful example of a sweater that fits easily into everyday life at this time of year. Because of his loose cut, he can simply be thrown over other clothes – over a shirt, a dress or classically over a T-shirt.

Especially in this time of year, when you still think “Maybe one more layer” in the morning and suddenly sit back in the sun at noon, such a sweater is ideal. Another perfect example of a piece of clothing that you can just throw yourself over when it gets a little too fresh, the Rotate Loop Vest from Otherloops.

The next step is with the Sweater No. 33 by My Favourite Things Knitwear. Compared to the previous knitting kits, this sweater probably looks a little bit more wintry. But honestly: We just think he is so beautiful that he still deserves a place here.

The sweater is a classic, oversized cut raglan sweater with high neck and lateral slits. A timeless knit piece that falls loosely and has a pleasantly relaxed fit. The sleeves are wide cut and taper downwards, giving the sweater this casual, uncomplicated shape. And even if it may not be the easiest spring sweater, there are enough days when you are still happy in the morning about a slightly warmer layer.

In order to really tune you and us to the warmer seasons, we have a whole series of new knitting kits from Sandnes Garn created for you. And honestly: these models actually speak the language of spring themselves. Fresh colors, lightweight designs and just the kind of projects where you immediately feel like picking up the needles.

That is why we are deliberately holding ourselves back a little at this point. Sometimes knitting kits are simply allowed to speak for themselves.

All right, but now we go out again to savour the warm rays of the sun and move our knitting projects to the terrace.

We will read each other again in two weeks – with new inspiration, fresh ideas and hopefully still just as much motivation.
