Usually, we are quite comfortable in the blog and with a ‘bite of shame’ – and don’t worry, that stays the same! Nevertheless, it is important to us to touch on a more serious topic today, because sometimes there are things that you simply have to talk about.
Too often we are stuck in everyday life, looking neither to the left nor to the right and annoying ourselves about things that are not worth wasting our energy. Sometimes we forget that there are people who are really bad. People who can’t just turn up the heater when they’re cold or have a full refrigerator when they’re hungry. People who are struggling with diseases or have severe strokes of fate behind them.
Don’t get us wrong: it’s not about the world’s pain determining our entire everyday life or dragging us down completely. Of course, we should continue to rejoice in the beautiful things in life! But looking a little more consciously and taking the time to help with small gestures is often enough to make a real difference for someone else.
Just think about it: A scarf you knit is worn by someone who freezes a little less thanks to your work. Or a baby blanket that you made with your hands, give a premature baby in the hospital a piece of security.
Knitting for the good cause is not just a help – it brings people together. And the best of it? You conjure up a smile in the face of others with something you enjoy.
We find that this theme fits perfectly into the pre-Christmas period – a time that is made to bring joy to others. That’s why we did a little research on how you can do something good with your self-knit projects.
- Shawls, hats and gloves for the homeless
The cold months are especially hard for people without a permanent residence. Organizations such as Caritas or VinziWerke I like to take warm clothes. - Snuggles and baby hats for children in need
Initiatives such as Christmas in the shoebox or hospitals are happy about knitted baby blankets, socks or stuffed animals for small patients and children who are not doing so well. - Hoods for cancer patients
A soft, home knitted hood can be a real consolation for people who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy. Regional cancer counselling centres are great contacts here. - Knitted or crocheted articles for retirement homes or people with disabilities
care facilities such as the Lebenshilfe or regional retirement homes like to accept hand knitted socks, blankets or ponchos. Especially at Christmas, such gifts are a real highlight. - Blankets and small sweaters for animal shelters
And the animal inhabitants in Tierheimen are happy about soft, warm blankets or simple toys made of wool.
So there are really many ways to give a lot of joy with relatively little effort.
A little tip: Before you just get started, it is best to briefly contact the organization or institution you want to support. So you can ask directly what is really needed – then your knitting project lands exactly where it helps the most!
The topic “knitting for a good cause” brings us today to our first knitting kit:
PetiteKnit I Cross Sweater
The guidance for the Cross Sweater is in a very special cooperation between PetiteKnit and the Red Cross entstanden. What's so great about it? For each knitting manual sold, 20 DKK (about 2.70 EUR) goes directly to the Red Cross – that’s two-thirds of the purchase price of 30 DKK – we think that’s a really great idea.
Don’t worry, we don’t want to encourage you to knit for the good cause alone – this is of course completely voluntary. Of course, you can still swing the needles for yourself or your loved ones! And so that you do not run out of ideas, we have put together great knitting kits for you again this time as usual.
Continue on with a classic of PetiteKnit – to which November Neck. The die-hard knitting fans certainly already know this stylish design, but we think it still deserves a small stage. This simple collar is not only super practical, but also a real eye-catcher – perfect for the cold days. Quickly knitted and mega versatile.
Le Knit I Peggy & Porcelain Damask Sweater
We also always focus on simple designs. The Peggy Sweater and the Porcelain Damask Sweater from Le Knit It's just our thing. Those gentle shades of cream in the photos? Sofort verliebt! And the material combination? She really has it in her.
What we can warmly recommend to you: Fäustlinge! Right now, when it gets really frosty outside, there is hardly anything better than putting cold hands in soft, warm gloves. The Robinia Mittens by Anne Ventzel are simply a beautiful choice. In “Scarlet Red”, as in the photo, or even in a poppy orange, we imagine the gloves really cool.
Speaking of bright orange, you are truly madness! Since our last blog post, Sabine’s desired color for the Busan Sweater Actually, it has sold out twice. And the Danish designs have also hit you full – we come with the packing of the knitting kits with the wonderful Yarn of isager barely after.
At this point, we just want to give you a big Dankeschön Say, you are great!
And finally, there is – how could it be otherwise – once again one of Sabine's infamous knitting scalations. Or is this now perhaps simply a contagious knitting virus? Who knows!
The Ole Hat You probably already know, so far we have always knitted them with merino wool. But now comes the kicker: One of our customers has Lamana Lima and Premia Snapped, because this combination is also proposed by the designer. Somehow we didn't have a screen! Und was sollen wir sagen? Absolutely brilliant!
Surely we will have a new (second) Knitting kit for the Ole Hat put together – this time with exactly this station wagon.
And of course Sabine could not let it go and took the yarn station wagon home right away. That same evening she (Italian) struck and knitted a few centimeters. “That’s going to be really, really nice!” – she raves already.

So, that's it for today! In two weeks we will be back for you – with fresh news, new knitting ideas and a lot of inspiration. Until then, we wish you a lot of fun on the needles. Stay creative and see you soon!
