It's summer. It is hot outside and actually now light tops, airy yarns and small projects as possible would be announced.
Eigentlich. Because we are slowly thinking of sweaters, shawls and hoods again. On the one hand, because Sabine would really like to leave the summer behind, and on the other hand, because we know by now: If we do not start things in time for the cold season, we are guaranteed to wear them not in the coming winter, but with a little luck in the winter of 2027/28.
So here are five pretty good reasons why we should absolutely knit for autumn and winter now.
1. Because autumn comes as a surprise every year
It’s hot for weeks and then suddenly there’s that one morning when you close the balcony door again, put on socks and wonder why you haven’t knitted a new shawl yet.
The answer is usually quite simple: because in July and August there was still enough time and then suddenly it is October.
If you start now, you have at least the chance to show off more on the first cool day than a half-finished hood and ten centimeter sweaters.
2. Because projects almost always take longer than expected
A sweater usually looks quite manageable at the beginning. One body, two sleeves, a few frets. What is going to happen?
Then a new yarn comes in between. Or another summer top. Or you notice after twenty centimeters that the chosen size was perhaps a bit optimistic.
Even a shawl that looks very uncomplicated can suddenly have many rows. And a hood is small, but still likes to lie exactly when only the threads need to be sewn.
The sooner we start, the more time there is for all these small detours that belong in knitting.
3. Because knitting without time pressure is simply more beautiful
It knits much more relaxed, if the sweater does not necessarily have to be ready by next week.
In the summer, a larger project can simply grow slowly. A few rows in the evening, a piece on vacation or a bundle on a longer train ride.
4. Because now we can still choose in peace
What model should it become? What colour? What yarn? A big sweater or rather a sweater? A simple shawl or one with a pattern? A subtle hood or this time maybe finally a fancy color?
Such decisions sometimes take time. If you start early, you can think very relaxed, make gauges and maybe even check before striking whether the size really fits this time.
5. Because we will celebrate for it in autumn
Let’s introduce ourselves briefly: It gets really cool outside for the first time, we get the jackets out of the closet and there is actually already a finished sweater, a warm shawl or a hood.
Not almost finished. Not finished except for one sleeve. Not finished except for the threads. But really done. That would be something, wouldn't it?
If you are still not convinced for these five reasons, we now use the somewhat tougher guns: lots of really nice knitting inspiration for autumn and winter. And we lean so far out the window and claim that you will agree with us at the latest then.
Let's go with it Infinity from Lang Yarns starten. This yarn is not only hot in demand, but also correspondingly rare due to the elaborate production. Anyone who flirts with it should therefore better not think too long and strike as long as it is still available. Of course, there is also the right booklet and honestly: It actually already had us on the cover.
It is a similar story with the Cloud from Lang Yarns. Get the wool and the magazine as long as we still have enough in stock. At the beginning of autumn, everyone feels like they are reaching for it again, now you can still order comfortably and do not have to panic, if you then perhaps have a ball too little.
For all those who like to pick up the crochet needle in between, we have a small project for which the Infinity from Lang Yarns Wonderfully suited: that Fainaa crochet shawl from My fabulous world.
Designer Sandra has written many guides, run a blog and online shop, and even published her own book. Meanwhile, she has withdrawn from the business and knits again “only” for fun. Fortunately, every now and then a new guide from her appears.
We already have the shawl from the Cloud gehäkelt. In our shop window it really does really well. In addition, there would be the Farfalla from Lana GrossaIt is also wonderful for the towel. So you have another nice yarn alternative to choose from.
In general, some new yarns from Lana Grossa have moved in with us. For example, the Ecopuno Sfumato with their very delicate color gradient or the Orsetto. The latter corresponds in strength to the Teddy Dear from Gepard Garn, but manages with another material mixture completely without synthetic fiber.
We deliberately ordered a few colors that we are missing from the Teddy Dear. So you can knit the exact same models with it.
Also new to us is the Filo di Gio from Lana Grossa. At first glance, a typical mohair yarn, except that the carrier thread here is not made of silk, but of wool. She will appear quite often in Lana Grossa’s new booklets – so it should not be missing knit inspiration.
Last but not least we have the new autumn/winter booklet of Lang Yarns. As always, it is a real hit in terms of price performance and with the many different models there is really something for everyone.
For example, the Missy Kapuze. We prefer to talk about the material only very briefly at this point: no animal had to leave hair for this and unfortunately no plant was involved. But we have to confess that she is still just pretty cool. And finally, the “amaze” in our name can also be exploited from time to time.
This would probably make us quite well prepared for autumn. We hope you have at least as much desire to hit as we do. And in two weeks we will read each other again with even more wool, new stories and even more new projects.
