Do you remember what it used to be like when we were little and grandma watched in fascination while knitting? As she sat in her regular place, very quietly, the knitting needles cleaved in steady measure, and we could hardly believe what was happening before our eyes.
A few balls of wool became like socks, a hood or a whole janker. Without guidance, without much fuss – just like that. It was pure magic for us at the time.
Of course we wanted to be able to do that too – anyway. So we grabbed knitting needles that were at least twice as long as our forearms, and started with full vigor.
Whether this was really already ‘knitting’ can be discussed... It was rather a small wool adventure – with knots, twisted stitches, holes in places where there should be none, and a number of stitches that somehow became independent.
But you know what? It didn't matter at all. We were incredibly proud. Because suddenly there was not only thread on thread, but something of your own emerged. And today we know: wool is not just wool. There's a lot more to it.
Imagine hearing a song on the radio. One that you haven’t heard for ages. Suddenly you are in the middle of old memories. You still know exactly where you were then, who was there – maybe even how it smelled. It is precisely this feeling that can also trigger wool.
Sometimes a certain shade, a handle, a very specific fragrance, and zag – when we are ten years old again, sitting on the couch with the grandma and trying to do the same: mesh for mesh, hoping that in the end something will come out that looks halfway like a scarf.
Wool has that talent. It reminds us of people, of places, of certain times in life.
To the tingling in the stomach, when the first own knitted piece takes shape.
On cozy evenings, on good conversations, on warm hands and a full heart.
A yarn that tells more
Just such a yarn has now been created.
Actually, we wanted to keep it a little secret – a small, fine knitting secret just for us.
But honestly: We are much too excited, because at the moment we are actually the only ones in the whole of Austria who have this yarn in their range! To be honest, we find it rather difficult to remain silent.
Two brands that we appreciate very much – Laine and Novita – have together set off a yarn that is not only beautiful, but also brings a story. And it is precisely this story that fits so well with what we talked about at the beginning: wool that awakens memories, carries emotions and preserves a piece of the past.
Not every yarn tells a story. Some are created because a new color trend is announced. Or because it simply fits well in the production plan. But this one? That is different.
It was born out of a memory. Out of a feeling and a desire to create something that is more than just beautiful. Namely, personally.
Last spring got Jonna Helin, founder of Laine, a message that struck her in the heart. The question came from Novita, the iconic Finnish yarn brand:
“Do you want to develop a yarn together?”
The answer? A crystal clear yes – from the deepest conviction.
Because Novita was the yarn with which Jonna learned to knit. Back then, when she was still sitting next to her mother and her grandmothers – mesh by mesh, try by try. This wool was always there: in homemade socks, sweaters and in many of these small but unforgettable moments.
That’s where she wanted to go: to a yarn that not only feels good, but also tells something.
Together with Novita and the traditional English spinning industry West Yorkshire Spinners A journey began: it was tested, mixed, discarded and rethought. The color palette was inspired by landscapes and memories that stayed in the heart.
The result is two yarn thicknesses: DK and 4ply – both spun in Yorkshire from finest Bluefaced Leicester, Bluefaced Kerry Hill and Falkland wool. The first tested color? A delicate olive green, now known as „Earthy Olive“ But see for yourself:
Allowed anticipation!
Currently you can pre-order the yarn in all colors and both thicknesses with us very easily.
The shipment is expected to start End of July – So it’s not long before you can hit the first stitches with it.
So that you do not get bored in the meantime – and you are not angry with us for too long, because we show you such a beautiful yarn that you can only hold in your hands in a few weeks – we have of course also thought of a small comfort patch.
Or say: a fine occupational therapy, until Laine x Novita Can finally move in with you.

More new favorites

The sweaters that you can knit from it, we immediately closed in the heart and mentally combined with all the favorite pieces from the wardrobe. You know it: you see a yarn, a design, and suddenly the whole outfit is already finished in the head.
