We have found a wonderfully beautiful silk here that we can recommend with a clear conscience <3
It has the typical silk shimmer and is just as smooth as other silk species, but fair to animals and the environment. We're very excited.
BC Garn hat lange nach einem Lieferanten für „gewaltfreie Seide“ gesucht. Bei der Jaipur Peace Silk This is silk from the Eri silkworm, which lives on cassava plants, for example. The caterpillar eats its way out of the cocoon and flies away before the cocoons are cooked. The cocoons are then collected by hand. This elaborate process is practiced on the silk farm in northeast Thailand, from where the raw silk for our Jaipur Peace Silk comes from. The Eri silk is not quite as smooth and shiny as mulberry silk, as it is not an endless thread, but rather feels rather dry, a bit like Bourette silk, but more even. And it has even better climate properties than mulberry silk.

BC Yarn
Natural yarns in the Scandinavian look in particularly many colors.
BC yarn is the brand with the most GOTS certified yarns in the entire industry. Already now, 16 yarns are fully certified and thus verifiably produced according to strict animal and environmental protection standards. Incidentally, the GOTS seal is also a guarantee of fair trade in some respects, because criteria such as fair pay, occupational safety and working conditions, social responsibility and anti-corruption guarantees are also reviewed in all production stages. In addition, a nonviolent silk yarn is presented for the first time: Jaipur Peace Silk. In this yarn, the cocoons are cut so that the caterpillars can escape before the cocoons are further processed. The traditional Danish company BC Garn was founded in 1996 by Bo Carstensen, who came from a Weber family. Later, Bos’ wife Marianna joined the company based in Kolding on the Baltic Sea. The focus has always been on the development of yarns made of natural fibres in a wide range of colours. In spring 2018, Marianna and Bo handed over “their baby” to Britta and Carsten Kremke, who continue the range of yarns, colours and models in the tradition of the Danish founders. The yarns will continue to be produced almost exclusively in Europe, only the quality soft silk comes from the silk country India, the new Jaipur Peace Silk from Thailand and the baby alpaka from the country of the Alpacas, Peru.
