fOTOS, design and text © Anne Ventzel

Aus dem Wolle + Staune Laden, Sabine: „Die Materialkombi dieses Pullovers ist wirklich ein Kuschelwahnsinn! The Snefnug from CaMaRose It’s a small miracle in itself: a super-soft mixture with alpaca that feels incredibly pleasant on the skin. And if that weren't enough, then it would be enough. Silk Mohair from Isager One more on top of that. The sweater is knitted double-threaded with both yarns – a perfect match.
And now it’s time: With every sale of the manual Anne Ventzel donates 20 DKK an Unicef weil eine Followerin Anne darauf aufmerksam gemacht hat, dass die Streifen im Design wie Menschen aussehen, die Seite an Seite stehen und sich an den Händen halten. Ist das nicht  ein wunderschöner Gedanke?“

Read here what Anne says about the design and the creation process:
„
With each sale, 20 DKK are donated to UNICEF.
One of my followers pointed out that the stripes in Sailor Soft reminded her of people standing side by side holding hands. I love the idea of this particular detail!

From the beginning of my work on this soft, warm embrace of a sweater, I wanted to knit a sweater that was not only fun, but that sent a warm thought to someone who needed help with every single stitch.

This knitting guide includes a variety of tutorials that demonstrate the techniques used. You might think that these patterns are more difficult than my others; quite the opposite. Ich hoffe, dass Jede mit dieser Anleitung Spaß am Stricken des Sailor Soft hat, egal, ob erfahrene Strickerin oder Anfängerin.“

SAILOR SOFT is worked smoothly on the right with strips in the weaving pattern. The weaving pattern (lifting mesh) is a simple technique to knit a multi-color pattern without processing multiple colors simultaneously. This means that what looks like Fair Isle knitting in this project is worked with only one color, which reduces the difficulty level.
The sweater has a clear cut with the shoulder line drawn forward. It is worked from top to bottom and does not have to be sewn together. First, the collar on the neck cutout is made in rounds, then shortened rows are made to shape the cutout, whereupon knitting is carried out again in rounds until the shoulder width is reached. The work is divided into front and back and both parts are made separately up to below the arm cutouts. There they are connected to the body and knitted down in rounds. At the end, the fuselage is again divided into front and back so that slots are created on the sides. Around the arm cutouts, new stitches for the sleeves are added. The arm balls are formed by shortened rows, whereupon the sleeves are worked in rounds on the circular knitting needle.

Sizes
Sizes: 1 (2) 3 (4) 5
Brustumfang: 113 (120) 129 (139) 148 cm
Length: 64 (65) 66 (67) 68 cm
sleeve length: 44 (44) 43 (42) 41 cm

It is very different how much freedom of movement you want to achieve on your knitted piece. Take measure of your favorite sweaters. So the decision regarding the appropriate size may be easier for you. If you have a curvy silhouette, I recommend a smaller range of movement. I myself have a very straight silhouette and like to oversize my clothes, which is why I decided to use my SAILOR SOFT for 37 cm of freedom of movement.

Colour B
100 (100) 100 (100) 100 g Snefnug Nature of CaMaRose in m.b. 7106 (55% undyed alpaca, 35% organic cotton, 10% merino wool; 110 m/ 50 g)
25 (25) 25 (25) 25 g Silk Mohair from Isager in Fb. 30 (75% Kid Mohair, 25% silk; 212 m/ 25 g)
– die 2 Qualitäten werden zusammen verstrickt

Knitting needles
Circular knitting needle 4,5 mm (40 and 80/120 cm) and 5 mm (40 and 80/120 cm)
Possibly a straight 4.5 mm needle for the Italian mesh stop

Gauge
17 stitches x 28 rows in MODEL on needle 5 mm = 10 x 10 cm
I recommend that you make a knit sample first before you start with the actual knitting. Wash the gauge and allow it to dry before taking measurement of it. Adjust your needle size if necessary, as one stitch creates a different fit more or less per 10 cm.
