To begin with, what is shorn wool? Shorn wool is wool obtained from live sheep. A natural fiber characterized by thermal insulation and the property of quickly guiding moisture to the outside.

That sounds promising, doesn’t it? But these are not the only great qualities that shorn wool brings with it. Schurwolle also has a so-called “self-cleaning power”. Yes, you read that right, the wool cleanses itself – somehow at least.

How does this work?

The dirt does not even get into the fiber.
The movable scale layer of the wool but also the high elasticity contribute to the fact that dirt sticks only with difficulty. In addition, wool is antistatic, that is, dust and dirt are not attracted.

Wool fibers can ward off bacteria
Due to the water-repellent property of wool, bacteria cannot penetrate wool fibers quite as easily.

Wool barely smells
The uppermost layer of the wool fiber allows water droplets to be beaded, but water vapor to penetrate. Salts and perfume particles do not penetrate the fiber. This means that even if you sweat, the fiber feels dry and does not muffle. Awesome, isn't it?

Cleansing effect by lanolin
The wool wax surrounds the wool fiber and thus additionally protects against dirt. The reaction of lanolin with sweat salts also has a cleansing effect.

Wool is quite a miracle fiber. Although it has self-cleaning properties, we would still recommend to wash wool socks & Co every now and then. Of course not too hot, because shrunken woolen clothing probably does not bring much pleasure to anyone.
