Helga Isager on the design:
The starting point for my Kirsten shirt is Åse Lund Jensen’s model shirt with longitudinal and transverse stripes, which was originally knitted from a strand of Jensen yarn.
My own version is knitted from 1-thread Tvinni with retriles from 1-thread silk mohair. I wanted the expression to be easy and springy, and Tvinni makes for that very ease. At the same time, I like to knit on thin needles. Knitting must take time and involve good techniques that produce an accomplished expression. The knitting parts I worked on and dealt with the longest often hold the longest in my wardrobe.
The lower part of the front part and the back part are knitted crosswise smoothly on the right with crosshairs (2 rows in Silk Mohair). It is knitted in reverse, so that the distance between the strips at the pass becomes narrower. Subsequently, stitches are knitted up to the upper part of the pass, where a closure is also worked. The shoulders are worked on the left and the shoulders are knitted together.
The model has a ribbed collar and small dome sleeves, which are knitted and sewn separately.

Exciting background information about the Isager Archive collection, by Helga Isager:
