Helga Isager on the model Anni Cowl
Anni Cowl is the first design I ever made with multi-colored double knitting. A technique in which both right sides are knitted simultaneously. You don’t have to worry about color changes and long strands of yarn on the wrong side, as they are trapped between the two knitted fabric layers. In addition, the double knitting technique has the advantage that the knitted fabric is reversible.
I became fascinated by the combination of Marled Rib-Knitting and Double Knitting, and in the collection a vest is knitted with the same technique.
Konstruktion
The cowl is knitted from the bottom up. The lower rib part is worked in back and forth rows to create a slot along the side. Then the work closes to the round and the cowl is further knitted in the diamond pattern while at the same time splitting the color A and color B, so that you now have twice as many stitches on the needle and can work in the round in double knitting. The cowl ends with a rib edge, at which color A and color B are knitted together again.
Tip: Make small twine balls for those colors that consist of more than one twine strand to make knitting easier.

THE 1919 COLLECTION
Helga Isager comments:
