Umma meant ‘mother’ in South Korean and the cape got its name for this reason, as it feels like a mother’s embrace when you wear it. Umma is also the mother of the Nabi and Narea instruction, both of which are marked by the delicate cross detail on the chest. Umma is worked from top to bottom, first the neck, after which the transverse threads are picked up under the ribbed on the neck to form the iconic cross. Afterwards, increases are made on the shoulders, while at the same time shortened rows are knitted using the German Short Row method.

Maße
Breast circumference (finished cape): approximately 123 (136) 146 (158) cm
NOTE: The chest circumference is calculated based on the mesh number and gauge, but does not take into account the opening on the front, which creates additional freedom of movement. This allows you to go down/up in size if you want a different style for your cape. See possibly ‘fits a chest circumference’, for further help in the selection of sizes. The model shown has a breast circumference of 79 cm / is 160 cm in size and wears Gr. 2 in the long version, for a special oversize look.
Fits a breast circumference: 70-100 (100-120) 120-140 (140-155) cm
Long version, measured incl. Collars on the neck and torso: 100 cm
Short version, measured incl. Collars on the neck and torso: 70 cm
Material
We chose the combination of Peer Gynt and Tynn Silk Mohair, both from Sandnes Garn. The Peer Gynt is a rugged merino wool that does not erase so easily on this large cape and retains better shape than very soft materials.
Long version:
950 (1000) 1050 (1150) g Peer Gynt of Sandnes Garn (50 g / 91 meters, 100% Norwegian wool)
200 (225) 250 (275) g Tynn Silk Mohair by Sandnes Garn (25 g / 210 m, 57% Kidmohair, 15% sliver wool and 28% silk)
Short version:
650 (700) 750 (800) g Peer Gynt of Sandnes Garn (50 g / 91 meters, 100% Norwegian wool)
125 (150) 150 (175) g Tynn Silk Mohair by Sandnes Garn (25 g / 210 m, 57% Kidmohair, 15% sliver wool and 28% silk)
Gauge: 17 stitches x 27 rows curly right on needle 5 mm = 10 x 10 cm.
Recommended needles:
Circular knitting needle 5 mm (40, 60, 80 – 100 cm) (allow an additional 5 mm needle)
Rundstricknadel 3,5 mm (40, 60 – 80 cm)
