Those who meditate regularly know that a few minutes a day can work miracles. Breathe deeply, pause for a moment, press the whole everyday clues on “pause” – sounds wonderful, doesn’t it? But let’s be honest: the classic image of meditation – sitting in the tailor’s seat on the yoga pillow, sending the thoughts on cloud seven – is not made for everyone.
Knitting is meditative. The uniform rhythm, the gentle clacking of the needles, the yarn that glides through the fingers – all this brings not only peace to the head, but also joy to the heart. And sometimes even a little bit of magic.
As with Sabine at the trade fair in Cologne. In the midst of the colorful hustle and bustle, between a thousand impressions, glaring light and a loud tangle of voices, she suddenly had her very personal “Om” moment. No, she had not lost herself in a meditation course, but stood before the state of Kokon Yarn.
Ein schlichter Messestand, ohne großes Tamtam – einfach nur ein kleiner Tisch und an den Wänden hingen sie: die Garne. Still, ruhig, wunderschön.
And who is behind this thread that so enchanted Sabine at the Mass that she would have forgotten near space and time? A woman with a lot of heart for wool, colors and fine details: Michelle du Plessis.
Michelle is a native of South Africa, but has lived in the Netherlands for over 25 years – and those who talk to her quickly feel: Here someone has a good feeling not only for wool, but also for what it triggers. Denn Kokon Yarn For Michelle, it is not simply “only” a yarn label. It is their creative home. Or, as she herself says:
„Kokon is an outlet for my creativity but also a place where I can vent my ideas about design, colour, texture and yarn.“
Michelle is particularly fascinated by the emotional power of color. Colors, she says, are like poetry. What we feel when we see them is quite individual – but never accidental. This fascination runs like a red thread through her work. Their yarns are therefore not only high-quality, but also color-coordinated in such a way that they look – still, calm, timelessly beautiful. Not loudly, but in a soft voice. So to speak: pastel with draught.
In her work, Michelle always strives for “irresistible beauty”. She deliberately asked herself: What makes a product irresistible? What does it take for us to fall in love with it again and again? Her answer: reduction to the essentials. No frills. No loud effects. True quality.
We suspect that by now you have gently slipped into the knit meditation mode just by reading it. No wonder with so much calm, color and feeling between the lines. And so that you can soon experience this state with needles in your hand, we present you the yarns of Kokon Yarn Now, of course, at last more precise.
Kokon Yarn I Merino Linen
Here they come: the typical, fine cocoon colors on a delightfully soft yarn. 90 % merino, 10 % linen – a mixture that shimmers easily and is perfect for fine shawls or fine garments.
Each strand weighs 100g with a running length of about 360m. Usually 3–4 strands are sufficient for the desired project. Especially beautiful: the quiet, elegant color palette – gentle, reserved and simply timelessly beautiful.
Kokon Yarn I Kokon Bleu FADE Set
A real highlight is that Fades – Lovingly compiled sets of 5, in which the colors change smoothly from light to dark from strand to strand. Perfect for large shawls with gradient, but also ideal for sweaters or jackets with a certain something.
Sabine was immediately thrilled – so much so that she decided to offer you not only the sets, but also all the strands individually. So if you fell in love with a very specific tone, you will find both the complete fade package and every strand solo in the shop.
Kokon Yarn I buttons Cocoon Bleu
And then... then there were the buttons. Matching the yarns – color-coordinated, handmade and simply beautiful. Kokon Yarn make them themselves, And when Sabine discovered this accessory, it was finally done around her.
Of course, it goes on as usual with our knitting kits. So that you not only know how wonderful the yarns are, but also what you can magic with them.
Many of the current designs with the cocoon yarns come from the Japanese designer Eri Shimizu. Unfortunately, their instructions are only available in English – but honestly: As beautiful as these models are, you nibble with joy! And we say it again and again: English instructions are really just a matter of practice.
Some of our customers (and no, we are not talking about teenagers here) are now even easier with the English instructions than with the German ones. So it’s worth taking the step – I promise!
By the way, we will constantly create new knitting kits for you – both with the great yarns of Kokon Yarnand other designs of Eri Shimizu. Attention: Danger of addiction.
If you really can’t make friends with English instructions, we have something in German in petto.
The Pierre Sweater from Kolibri by Johanna is quasi the German counterpart to the popular Tiny Muscari sweater from Eri Shimizu. This time with mohair as a companion thread, but the design is really almost identical – and just as beautiful!
And then there is a model that we all need without exception: the Lille Kolding from Chris Berlin. A timelessly beautiful design that really fits everything and that incidentally to a small Knitting escalation has led.
Sabine has already carefully used a hand-colored strand for this project. Kokon Yarn from the shelf (well, from the shop stock) “borrowed”. Less than ten minutes later – and this is really no joke – an order came in over the remaining four strands.
Sabine, well-behaved and hypocritical as she is, politely wrote to the customer whether she Maybe even the fifth strand. Would you like to? “Then I would unpack it from my purse.”
And what? Yes, yes! She wanted him. Sabine: laughed and cried at the same time. The customer did not yet know exactly what she will knit from it, but she wanted this wool for so long that she would rather invest in five strands instead of four.
And at this point: very warm greetings to Baukje from Holland – you just got it, denn: Wool are our babies. Wool are pack animals & wool is always bought so that it is in no case too little. Even if only a summer top is planned, it can mutate into a jacket within seconds.
And because we just don’t get enough of Kokon Yarn, we will of course re-order. The yarns are dyed extra for us, which requires a bit of patience, but in August comes the next swing!
If something is sold out by then, or you are flirting with a completely different color, please let us know – we are also happy to have you personally colored. In addition, we are just thinking about mohair in the beautiful Kokon Yarn- Let the colors be colored. What do you think?
Well, at the end only remains: Enjoy the dreamlike yarns & we read each other in 14 days with new ideas, great wool and maybe the next knitting escalation.
